West Coast, Bay Area Preferred

Symbiotica is partnering with a global life science tools company to identify a Technical Sales Representative for a high-performing West Coast territory.

This organization supports customers across drug discovery, development, analytical testing, clinical research, forensic testing, academia, government, and pharmaceutical environments through chemistry-focused workflow solutions.

This is a remote, field-based role with a strong preference for someone based in the Bay Area. Candidates in Los Angeles or other strategic West Coast locations may also be considered.

The Opportunity

This role is focused on selling chemistry consumables and related scientific systems into life science, analytical testing, and research-based accounts.

The successful candidate will step into an active territory with strong historical performance, while still having a clear mandate to grow new business. The territory includes a mix of academic, government, analytical, toxicology, clinical, pharmaceutical, CRO, forensic, and related laboratory customers.

This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys being in front of scientists, understands laboratory workflows, and can translate technical value into commercial success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and grow a West Coast sales territory across existing and prospective laboratory customers
  • Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue, profitability, territory, and product-volume targets
  • Identify customer needs and workflow challenges to build appropriate solutions
  • Sell chemistry consumables and related systems into scientific and analytical testing environments
  • Develop new customer relationships while expanding current accounts
  • Conduct sales calls, seminars, product discussions, and hands-on demonstrations
  • Provide first-line customer support, including troubleshooting of sample preparation workflows
  • Partner with internal applications scientists on advanced or complex customer methods
  • Work closely with inside sales to qualify leads and leverage territory opportunities
  • Maintain accurate forecasts, CRM documentation, and opportunity updates
  • Generate quotes and negotiate pricing within authorized limits
  • Represent the company at conferences and industry events as needed

Ideal Background

Strong candidates may bring experience selling scientific equipment, analytical chemistry tools, sample preparation products, consumables, laboratory workflows, life science tools, or related solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, life sciences, or a related scientific field
  • Approximately 3 or more years of relevant outside sales experience in a scientific, laboratory, analytical, or life science market
  • Proven ability to manage a territory, build relationships, and grow accounts
  • Strong verbal, written, listening, negotiation, and persuasion skills
  • Ability to operate independently in a remote territory
  • Strong organization, time management, and self-motivation
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, self-directed commercial environment
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, ideally Salesforce, and Microsoft Office tools
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the territory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience selling scientific equipment, chemistry consumables, sample preparation products, or related laboratory workflow tools
  • Chemistry laboratory experience, especially in analytical chemistry, sample preparation, SPE, SLE, PPT, chromatography, toxicology, or related workflows
  • Experience selling into academic, government, pharmaceutical, CRO, clinical, forensic, or analytical testing accounts
  • Experience navigating pricing processes within government, academic, or grant-funded institutions
  • A consultative, strategic sales approach with the ability to build trust with scientific customers

Travel Expectations

This is a field-based sales role with regular customer-facing activity across the West Coast. Travel is expected to be approximately 40 -50%, with some variation depending on home base and territory needs. During the first year, travel may be heavier as the new hire gets established.

Candidates based in the Bay Area may have less overnight, with a greater focus on day trips to key customers.

Why This Role Stands Out

This is a compelling opportunity for a scientific salesperson to step into a strong territory with a respected customer base, meaningful technical products, and room to grow.

The right person will be customer-focused, motivated by sales success, and comfortable balancing technical credibility with proactive business development.
