Senior / Principal Scientist – Genomics Sample Preparation

Step into scientific ownership.

Our client is a growing life sciences company developing products used in genomics sample preparation, nucleic acid purification, and DNA/RNA workflow applications.

They are looking for a technically strong scientist who can help build out their internal genomics and nucleic acid sample prep capability.

This is not a routine bench role.

It is a high-ownership opportunity for someone who has helped develop real molecular biology, genomics, sample prep, purification, assay, or workflow products in industry — and now wants greater influence, visibility, and responsibility.

You may currently be a Principal Scientist, Senior Scientist, Senior Principal Scientist, Staff Scientist, Technical Lead, Senior Manager, or Associate Director.

The title attached to this opportunity is less important than the work itself: helping shape a growing product range in nucleic acid sample preparation and becoming a key scientific authority within the business.

The Opportunity

The company has strong product development and manufacturing foundations, but is now expanding further into genomics and nucleic acid workflow products.

They need someone who understands the science deeply enough to guide product development, troubleshoot complex technical problems, and help translate molecular biology workflows into robust, manufacturable products.

You will work across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and commercial teams to help develop and scale products used in DNA/RNA workflows, sample preparation, extraction, cleanup, purification, and related genomics applications.

This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys being close to the science, but wants to move beyond being an individual contributor.

What You Will Work On

  • Development of nucleic acid sample preparation products and workflows.

  • DNA/RNA extraction, purification, cleanup, and related molecular biology applications.

  • Genomics workflow development, including automation-compatible methods.

  • Product optimization, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving.

  • Experimental design, data analysis, documentation, and technical decision-making.

  • Transfer of products and processes from R&D toward manufacturing.

  • Collaboration with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and commercial teams.

  • Development of practical, reliable, scalable products rather than purely academic methods.

  • Support for product launch, customer use, and continuous product improvement.

  • Mentoring or guiding junior scientists as the function grows.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Nucleic acid sample preparation

  • DNA extraction or RNA extraction

  • DNA/RNA purification

  • PCR cleanup

  • NGS library preparation

  • Molecular biology workflow development

  • Genomics applications

  • Magnetic bead, silica, solid-phase, or related purification technologies

  • Sample prep kits, reagents, consumables, or workflow products

  • Automation-compatible molecular biology workflows

  • Liquid handling, high-throughput sample prep, or method development

The ideal person will have worked on products, applications, workflows, kits, reagents, or consumables that needed to function reliably outside a research-only setting.

Background That Would Fit Well

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • Life science tools

  • Sample preparation

  • Nucleic acid purification

  • Molecular diagnostics

  • Genomics tools

  • NGS workflow development

  • PCR/qPCR applications

  • Research-use reagents or consumables

  • Automation-compatible sample prep

  • Molecular biology product development

You do not need to have already held a large Director-level role.

You do need to have led technical work, influenced projects, solved difficult scientific problems, and understand how product development differs from academic research.

Valuable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be highly relevant:

  • Product development or application development in industry

  • Scale-up or transfer into manufacturing

  • Working with quality, manufacturing, or regulatory teams

  • ISO 13485, ISO 9001, GMP, or other quality-driven environments

  • Cleanroom, contamination control, or controlled manufacturing settings

  • Automation platforms such as Hamilton, Tecan, Agilent, INTEGRA, Beckman, or similar systems

  • Supporting customer-facing applications or troubleshooting

  • Leading projects or mentoring other scientists

The Person Who Will Thrive

This role is for someone who wants more ownership.

You may be the person currently doing the technical heavy lifting behind a product, workflow, or application, while someone else owns the strategy.

This opportunity offers the chance to become the scientific voice in the room.

The right person will be practical, curious, fast-moving, and commercially aware. They will care about good science, but also understand that good products must be reliable, scalable, documented, manufacturable, and useful to customers.

Why This Role Is Different

Many scientific roles offer depth without influence.

This role offers the chance to help build a capability.

You will have visibility, responsibility, and the opportunity to shape how a growing company develops its genomics and nucleic acid sample prep product range.

For a strong technical scientist ready to step into broader ownership, this is a chance to move from contributing to the roadmap to helping define it.
