Field Application Scientist (UK & EMEA)

Are you a technical expert with a passion for advanced metrology and surface analysis? Do you thrive on translating complex scientific principles into real-world applications? We’re looking for a Field Application Scientist to support cutting-edge nanoscale and surface metrology solutions across the UK and EMEA.

In this role, you’ll engage with researchers, engineers, and industry professionals to demonstrate high-precision instruments , provide advanced training, and support sales teams in driving business growth. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Optical & Stylus Profilers, and Nanoindentation Systems , making a direct impact on materials science, semiconductor research, and industrial metrology.

Your Role:

  • Technical Expertise & Support – Provide expert-level applications support, ensuring customers maximize the potential of high-precision measurement technologies .
  • Live Demonstrations – Showcase instrument capabilities through sample testing, product demos, and hands-on workshops at customer sites, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Customer Training & Onboarding – Deliver comprehensive training programs, ensuring users can operate instruments effectively in research and industrial settings.
  • Pre-Sales & Sales Team Collaboration – Work closely with commercial teams to advance opportunities by providing technical insights, presentations, and application development .
  • Academic & Industry Engagement – Represent the company at scientific conferences, user meetings, and technical symposiums , keeping customers informed about the latest advancements.
  • Installation & Setup – Assist in the logistics, installation, and commissioning of cutting-edge metrology instrumentation .
  • Continuous Learning & Knowledge Sharing – Collaborate with global applications teams to develop best practices and enhance internal expertise .

What You Bring:

  • Degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field .
  • Experience with nanoscale characterization and surface metrology is highly advantageous.
  • Hands-on expertise in AFM, optical profiling, or nanoindentation is a strong plus.
  • A passion for problem-solving – you enjoy tackling complex measurement challenges and helping customers get the most out of advanced instrumentation.
  • Presentation & training experience – whether in academia or industry, you’re comfortable explaining technical concepts in an engaging way.
  • Strong communication skills – able to clearly convey technical concepts to both specialists and non-specialists.
  • Experience using scientific software & tools
  • Willingness to travel (~50%) across the UK and occasionally EMEA to engage with customers, attend events, and support technical initiatives.
  • Valid driving license & fluency in English . Additional languages are a plus.
